Danity Kane Break-Up After Physical Fight: ‘An Ethical And Moral Line Has Been Crossed’

Aubrey and Shannon blame Dawn for the split.

The Danity Kane comeback is over before it really got started.

Just several days after a battery report was taken by the LAPD following a physical fight between members Aubrey O’Day and Dawn Richard, the girls have decided to call it quits.

Aubrey and member Shannon Bex took to Twitter, without Dawn, and posted a lengthy note (one from each of the girls and a joint letter) to their DK fans, giving them the “unfiltered truth,” behind the split and what exactly happened between Aubrey and Dawn.

“During a recent group meeting, a business conversation took a turn for the worst when my group member punched me in the back of my head while I was speaking to another associate. To be clear, she was not physically engaged or threatened prior to her attack on me,” Aubrey wrote about her violent fight with Dawn. “This is the same information I provided to the police, and witnesses also corroborated this account of the incident. I cannot condone or excuse any form of physical violence, particularly at the hands of someone I considered family. Disagreements happen. But a war of words and ideas should never end in physical aggression.”

Aubrey went on to explain that Dawn, whose behavior has gotten “darker and darker” over the past year, has no regrets and that an “ethical and moral line has been crossed.”

“It breaks my heart that this violence is followed by no sign of remorse. For the past year, I watched small lies turn into bigger lies. Those bigger lies turned into verbal abuse. Now the verbal abuse has deteriorated into a physical assault,” she said. “I put what I knew was right second to what I knew I could handle for the sake of the big-picture success this incredibly talented group of women could have achieved together.”
Shannon, who admits she is “devastated,” seems to echo Aubrey’s sentiments, saying that the break-up is not fair and that she “must walk away feeling used and manipulated.”

“As for the actions that have brought us to this broken ending, I cannot speak for anyone or explain their internal struggles that prompted this heartbreaking sequence of events,” Shannon said. “All I know is what I have seen. I did not witness a shouting match, a cat fight or a brawl. I witnessed a single direct punch.”

In a joint letter, the girls take the time to thank the DK fans who have stuck by them since they announced their reunion back in 2013 at the Video Music Awards, and assure them that they are just as frustrated with this break-up as they are.

“We know it must be devastating for our fans to have spent the last twelve months supporting our every move, and for that we cannot apologize enough. We share your frustration and anger!” They said before adding that they had finished their comeback album. “We wish, more than anything, that our time, our team’s time, and most importantly your time as fans, was not taken for granted and carelessly disregarded. If this ending was in our control, please understand that we would have done everything in our power to move things forward.”

The group recently released their lead single, “Lemonade,” and embarked on the “No Filter” tour back in May. Before they hit the road, member Aundrea Fimbres left the group to focus on starting a family.
