Evan Davis is to replace Jeremy Paxman on Newsnight, the BBC has announced.

The Radio 4 Today programme presenter was the BBC's economics editor for six and a half years and previously worked for Newsnight from 1997 to 2001.

'Apes' outmuscles 'The Purge' at box office

NEW YORK (AP) — The summer box office continued to lack mojo, as the R-rated "Sex Tape" failed to turn on moviegoers over a weekend where "Dawn of the Planet of the Apes" maintained its rule.

20th Century Fox's science fiction sequel outmuscled a trio of new films to top the North American box office for the second-straight week with $36 million, according to studio estimates Sunday. The acclaimed sequel to 2011's reboot of the chimp franchise has now made $139 million domestically in two weeks.

Its closest completion over the weekend was the home-invasion horror thriller "The Purge: Anarchy," written and directed by James DeMoncaco. Universal's low-budget sequel to last year's surprise hit, "The Purge," opened with $28.4 million, down from the $34.1 million the original scared up on opening weekend.

Skye McCole Bartusiak, actress from 'The Patriot,' dies at age 21

HOUSTON -- Actress Skye McCole Bartusiak, who portrayed Mel Gibson's young daughter in the 2000 film "The Patriot," died in her Houston home, her mother said Sunday. She was 21.

Bartusiak's mother, Helen Bartusiak, told The Associated Press the actress had been living in a garage apartment at her parents' home. She said the actress' boyfriend found her unresponsive on her bed Saturday.

Helen Bartusiak said she tried to resuscitate her daughter but could not. She said the actress had been healthy and did not drink or do drugs and the family did not yet know a cause of death.

Bollywood celebs come together for charity football match in Mumbai




Aamir Khan, Salman Khan, Hrithik Roshan and Abhishek Bachchan among others recently came together for a charity football match in Mumbai.

The match was organized by Aamir's daughter Ira, in order to support stray animals. Speaking at the event, Salman Khan said, "It's a great cause. Humans and animals should live together. They have taken a good initiative."

Mystery surrounds death of 21-year-old man at Pemberton Music Festival

RCMP not ruling out foul play
PEMBERTON — Rain dampened the mood of campers at the Pemberton Music Festival, but it was the police tape strung around a tent in which 21-year-old Regina man Nick Phongsavath was found dead Friday night that cast the longest shadow over last weekend’s event.


RCMP called Phongsavath’s death suspicious and locked down the scene almost immediately, but police did not make any arrests nor identify any suspects in relation to the man’s death, said Sgt. Jennifer Pound, a spokeswoman for the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team.

Planet of the Apes takes $36m in US in second weekend

The latest instalment of the Planet of the Apes saga has topped the box office in the US and Canada for a second week running.Dawn of the Planet of the Apes took $36m (£21m) in ticket sales in its second weekend.

The film has made almost $140m (£82m) in North America since its release, according the data company, Exhibitor Relations.

'Revelations coming’ on The Walking Dead



 The return of The Walking Dead is just a few months away and creator Robert Kirkman is beginning to drop some hints about what fans can expect in Season 5.

The plot will quickly rev up in the first episode, which airs on Oct. 29, says Kirkman.

“We really hit the ground running. What I mean by that is that we very quickly deal with the situation that we left them in — this trapped, victim situation where they’re kind of at the mercy of the people of Terminus,” Kirkman tells Entertainment Weekly, and adds that there are big surprises coming.

Child star of The Patriot was found dead at 21 died after suffering seizures for a week

Actress Skye McCole Bartusiak, best known for her role as Mel Gibson’s daughter in The Patriot, has died after having seizures, according to reports.

Bartusiak passed away Saturday at her family’s Texas home after a week of epileptic seizures, her mother told CNN, adding that she tried to resuscitate the dying girl before paramedics arrived.

'We lost our girl,' mother Helen McCole Bartusiak told the network. 'She was a kind and really beautiful girl.'

The young woman's boyfriend found her sitting up on a bed in a garage apartment next to the house, the mother added.

A former member of Destiny's Child got arrested again for disorderly conduct. Farah Franklin, who was with the band for five months was said to have been detained in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

The 33- year old was booked at 4:55 in the morning but was released on Sunday. She had to pay a U.S. $280 bill in order to get out of the Horry County Detention center. Sources say, alcohol might have been a factor in why she got arrested. Before the arrest, Franklin posted a photo on Instagram showing that she was on the beach and that she seemed carefree.

Adam Levine and Behati Prinsloo had a wedding to remember.The Maroon 5 frontman and the Victoria's Secret model tied the knot at Flora Farms in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, with Jonah Hill conducting the ceremony.

Charlie Hunnam Talks About Leaving 'Fifty Shades'
