PIERRE Ryckmans, the late Belgian Sinologist, was one of the greatest intellectuals ever to live in Australia. He was an extraordinarily gifted and decent human being, whose writing provides a luminous insight into Chinese culture and history, and into many aspects of the human condition. As an author, he bears comparison with George Orwell for the astringent clarity and moral courage of his thinking and writing. Yet in many ways he was a much bigger figure than Orwell.

Naja offices consist of a warren of small rooms filled with boxes, whiteboards, an assistant and a tiny dog named Blueberry. The company headquarters actually is the CEO's apartment, on the fourth floor of a building in a neighborhood not big on glam. And there is no elevator.
But spend any time with Girald, and you start to see not what is, but what can be.

Beauty really IS skin deep: Study finds good-looking people suffer just as many illnesses as their plainer counterparts

Almost 5,000 British teenagers were scanned using 3D scanners
Results found no association between symmetrical facial features and 16 illnesses including measles, mumps, tonsillitis and flu

The stylish gallerist reminisces on her beauty inspirations
