Television Critics Association Awards: Bryan Cranston Makes Emotional Speech As Breaking Bad Scoops Programme Of The Year

The actor who played Walter White said he was 'sad'
Everyone involved with Breaking Bad had a lot to celebrate when the hit AMC show picked up the Programme Of The Year award at the Television Critics Association Awards over the weekend.

However the victory was tinged with sadness due to the realisation that this year will be the last year that the show could qualify for any of the categories after it came to an end last year.

Admitting that he was sad over the fact, actor Bryan Cranston, who played the role of Chemistry teacher turned drug king pin Walter White told the audience at the TCA Awards over the weekend:

"It's a little sad saying goodbye. This is the last time we'll be up here, unless you create the category of newly departed show."

If only!

Despite the sadness, Bryan kept his speech humourous as he referenced TV network HBO for not picking Breaking Bad up, before revealing that he would be working with them soon on the HBO film adaption of the Broadway play, All The Way.

He said: "Everyone's thanking HBO, so thank you, HBO. Early on, you turned us down. That's OK, I'll be working for you soon."

The awards also praised Veep when the show picked up two gongs. The Individual Achievement In Comedy went to Julia Louis-Dreyfus, whilst the show shared the award for Outstanding Achievement In Comedy with Louie.

HBO's True Detective was also one of the big successes of the night as the Outstanding Achievement in Movies, Miniseries and Specials went to the drama along with Matthew McConaughey's award for Individual Achievement In Drama.

Meanwhile, Netflix smash Orange Is The New Black picked up the gong for Outstanding New Programme.
