James Gardner, star of hit US TV series', The Rockford Files and Maverick, has died at the age of 86.
He was also the star of films such as The Great Escape, Grand Prix and Oscar-winning Victor Victoria.
He had suffered from ill health since a severe stroke in 2008.
"Mr Garner died of natural causes," the West LA Division of the Los Angeles Police Department said, adding his body has been released to his family by a doctor.
He earned an Oscar nomination for Murphy's Romance and a Golden Globe Award for Decoration Day.
