Celebrity hair stylist Jen Atkin is constantly on the move. Whether she’s on set with Reese Witherspoon (shown in Atkin’s Instagram shot above), flying to Canada to teach a hair seminar, or in the salon styling Chrissy Teigen—it’s pretty much all hair, all the time. "It’s great seeing people express themselves through their hair," says Atkin. “I feel like there’s so much creativity buzzing right now.” I asked her about what she thinks will be big this fall.
What fall hair trend are you most excited about? Accessories! Playing dress up with scarves, jewels, and hats like they did on the runway at Giambattista Valli and Chanel. I love the alternative to conventional styling.Have your celebrity clients already started stepping out in styles that we should expect to be seeing more of in the fall? I’m seeing a lot of celebrities toning down their color. A few of my girls are muting their ombre to a faint, discrete, flow. The color isn’t screaming at all. As far as styling goes, we’re gearing away from the untamed and going into more sleek, polished looks. Straight locks with a middle part that’s tucked behind the ear are so gorgeous.
Is there a particular haircut that you love right now? The summer popularity contest was obviously won by the long bob. But I love long hair with bangs that sweep just at the cheekbone.
What look would you love to see have a comeback? Veruschka inspired, all-one-length hair from the ‘60s. Most people today would see it as a nightmare since there’s no layered movement, but there was something magical about all that hair.
