Kit Harington Swaps Game Of Thrones Curls For World War I In First Trailer For Epic Love Story Testament Of Youth

The Game of Thrones star is notched up another big screen role

Kit Harington has left the Wall behind as he embarks on his big screen career, with the Game of Thrones favourite the star of Testament of Youth, a First World War epic based on the classic memoir.

The first trailer for the drama has been released, which sees Kit star alongside Alicia Vikander (The Fifth Estate, Anna Karenina). Based on Vera Brittain's beloved memoirs, the film tells the story of love torn apart by war.

Vera (Vikander) is a free-spirit in the constraints of the pre-war years, overcoming the prejudices of her family and hometown to win a scholarship to Oxford. While immersing herself in her literary heroes, she falls in love with her brother’s close friend Roland Leighton (Harington).

But as WW1 breaks out Roland heads off to fight while Vera realises she cannot sit idly by so volunteers as a nurse.

With her fiancé, her brother and their closest friends all fighting for their country, Vera's story is full of loss and heartbreak but also of indefatigable spirit.

The original memoirs, published in the 1930s and 50s, were hailed as a triumph for both their descriptions of war and the struggle of women to achieve independence during and after the war.

Also starring Taron Egerton, Colin Morgan, Dominic West, Emily Watson, Hayley Atwell, Miranda Richardson and Anna Chancellor, Testament of Youth opens early 2015.

The film marks another step in the blossoming movie career of Harington who also leads the movie of BBC's hit MI5 drama Spooks, due in cinemas later this year.

As for Vikander, she's about to hit the big time with the actress recently finishing work on another TV to big screen jump: The Man From U.N.C.L.E., with the Guy Ritchie drama also starring Henry Cavill, Armie Hammer and Hugh Grant.
