Reggae fusion band Magic! knock Cheryl Cole off No 1

Canadian reggae fusion band Magic! have knocked Cheryl Cole off the top of the singles chart with their debut single Rude.

Although first entering the charts four weeks ago based on single streams alone, the Toronto quartet claimed their first No 1 spot after its official release, pushing Cheryl Fernandez-Versini’s Crazy Stupid Love down to No 2. With 16% of Rude’s sales a result of audio streaming - achieving a further 1.4 million streams this week according to the official charts company - the song has already topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart and entered the Top 10 in Canada, Sweden, Czech Republic, Denmark, Iceland, The Netherlands, Australia and New Zealand.

The biggest physical selling single this week is Britain’s Got Talent finalists Bars and Melody with their track Hopeful at No 5, while dance vocalist and producer ZHU scored his first UK Top 40 with Faded at No 3. Former X Factor contestant Ella Henderson spent her eighth week in the Top 5 with Ghost at No 4.

In the album charts, Ed Sheeran continues his reign at the top, spending his sixth week at No 1 with his second record X. Outselling Dolly Parton’s Blue Smoke - The Best Of for yet another week running, the singer also held off competition from Eric Clapton & Friends’ JJ Cale tribute album The Breeze, while Sam Smith’s In The Lonely Hour and George Ezra’s Wanted On Voyage remain on the brink of the Top 5.
